Stained it with raw sienna.

Takes burnt umber.

Frames the head with raw umber.

Bit 1

Having suggested twilight-zone shadow, he now goes to some, of those shadows, that he sees around the eyes.

A very dark shadow comes along the cheek.

 

Bit 2

Cheek is matching background too closely.

Therefore he darkens the background, but only slightly.
