Jan
Van Noordt was born in either 1623 or 1624. His place of bith was
possibly Amsterdam.
Very little is known about the life of Jan Van Noordt.

His
father was an organist and schoolmaster who came to Amsterdam in 1630.
His brothers were Jacob and Anthonie van Noordt.

HOW BIBLICAL WAS HE?
Some, of his works, and those, of his associates,
leaned toward the pagan, which implies a connection to subversive
sociteties, either on hi own part, or that of some, of them, who
bent him.
THE PAINTINGS OF JAN VAN NOORDT
Joan
van Noordt was a painter of the Dutch Golden Age. His paintings are
often misattributed to other painters, although he created very flamboyant
and expressive history and portrait paintings. He also frequently
painted traditional paintings based on plays. His paintings were originally
painted for the free market.
HIS
INFLUENCES AND STUDENTS
Van
Noordts traubed wutg Jacob Adriaensz and Backer. Afte Backer
died , his paintings followed the style of Govert Flink. One of his
students was Johannes Voorhout between 1664 AND 1669.
ATTRIBUTION
OF HIS WORKS
His
work has also been often attributed to van den Eeckhoudt and to Maes
and Bol.
LAST
PAINTINGS
His
last known work, a mother and child in a landscape is dated 1676.
DEATH
OF VAN NOORDT
Although
his death was not recorded, Jan Van Noordt likely died in 1676.
