1879 Gustav Klimt founded the Künstlercompagnie , an artists' co-op that produced decorative wall paintings in public buildings with his brother Ernst Klimt, and Franz von Matsch

1897 Became president of the newly founded Vienna Secession

1902 Created the Beethoven frieze at the Secession Building which marked a turning point in his work. Klimt began using line for expression

1918 Died February 6, (aged 55) Vienna, Austria-Hungary
