HISTORY OF "PORTRAIT OF JACOB OLYCAN "

Jacob's portrait, along with Alette Haneman's, was painted by Frans Hal in 1625. The family arms and inscriptions that appear in both portraits is what tell us that these portraits are connected.

 

 

JACOB PIETERSZ OLYCAN THE MAN

Jacob Olycan, age 29, was a beer brewer who held a number of public offices, including burgomasters of Haarlem and delegate to the States General, the Goverment of the Dutch Republic. He was married to Alette Hanemans, age 19, in 1624.
